So last night was the Golden Globe awards and, as usual, we’ve been discussing the red carpet dresses this Monday morning. From Jennifer Lawrence in (a questionable) Dior couture gown, to Zooey Deschanel wearing Oscar de la Renta, all the big names were in all the big labels for 2014.
Our special JBPR long-term recognition award goes to the fabulous Cate Blanchett for her services to fashion. Her backless Valentino gown was just the latest in a long line of impeccable red carpet dresses for the Blue Jasmine star.
Clare’s gold star went to British beauty Emma Watson - who wore a daring backless Dior Couture number over a pair of black trousers - teemed with gorgeous blue sueded shoes. The Daily Mail weren’t fans, but maybe thats a good thing? Watson flew the flag for quirky Brit chic.
Jo opted for Kenyan actress Lupita Nyong’o’s stunning red Ralph Lauren dress - which won general approval in the office. Sadly she lost out to Jennifer Lawrence in the Best Supporting Actress category, but her film, 12 Years a Slave, won the most coveted prize of all on the night: Best Film Drama. And she definitely whooped Lawrence in the sartorial stakes.
Not the most glamourous of gowns, but Emma went for HBO Girls’ Jemima Kirke as her best dressed. A vintage-looking labeless dress, teamed with vampy lips and glossy waves made Jemima stand out for a different reason - for being the most laid-back beauty on the carpet. All we would expect from the coolest female on TV right now.
The dress that got the brunt of our impeccably dressed office’s fury was worn by Hollywood sweetheart Reese Witherspoon. Hailed as ‘back of the rack at TK Maxx’ couture by one member of JBPR, Reese’s dress left us all feeling a bit uninspired. Must try harder for the Oscar’s Reese, this just won’t cut it.
What do you think? Let the judging commence!
